Steubenville is more than the name of a conference, it's a city in Ohio that is home to Franciscan University of Steubenville, a vibrant Catholic college rooted in the Franciscan tradition and dedicated to proclaiming Jesus Christ as "the Way, the Truth, and the Life."
Franciscan University hosted its first Steubenville Youth Conference in 1976, when 1,000 youth and young adults gathered on our campus in Steubenville, Ohio, for a weekend of prayer, praise, and reflection. This summer, more than 50,000 teens will participate in 21 different youth conferences across North America, discovering the richness of the Catholic Church and encountering the truth of Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament.
ACADEMICALLY EXCELLENT, PASSIONATELY CATHOLIC
Study in a supportive atmosphere that demands
your best. Learn from highly respected, faith-filled
faculty. Live what you believe at Franciscan University.
Franciscan University of Steubenville is known around the world as a leader in Catholic higher education, providing 2,500 students each year with an education that is both academically excellent and passionately Catholic. Offering more than 40 majors, the University integrates faith and reason in the pursuit of truth and right living. That experience happens both in and out of the classroom, preparing you not only for professional success, but also to transform the culture with the light of Christ.
For more than 10 years in a row, U.S. News & World Report's guidebook on "America's Best Colleges" has ranked Franciscan University of Steubenville in the elite "top tier" of Midwestern universities, and the academic excellence of our incoming students continues to rise. In 2012, the average ACT score of new freshman students was 25, which is four points higher than the national average. Young America's Foundation rates Franciscan one of the top conservative colleges in the nation for our excellent academics and conservative environment. And The Templeton Honor Roll for Education in a Free Society considers Franciscan one of the 13 colleges that are the "best in liberal arts education." Among our faculty, four professors have won prestigious Fulbright Grants, while two Franciscan students recently became Fulbrighters as well.
The hallmark of a Franciscan education is its joy-filled, Catholic spirituality. One of 22 "faithfully Catholic universities" cited by the Cardinal Newman Society, Franciscan University follows the example of St. Francis of Assisi, finding its identity at the heart of the Catholic Church. The university embraces the teachings of Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium with a spirit of Christian humanism that relates all learning to Jesus Christ. Here, both in and out of the classroom, you'll discover how to answer the call of the Holy Father to evangelize the culture through volunteer work, mission trips, community service, and in all the ordinary moments of everyday life.
NOT JUST AN EDUCATION...
At Franciscan, you'll be challenged to integrate your intellect and spirituality as you learn to reason and communicate effectively while pursuing your goals.
Designed to be small voluntary communities made up of students of the same gender, Franciscan's faith households seek to help students grow in mind, body, and spirit. Your household brothers or sisters will offer you support and accountability as you pursue truth and virtue. From organizing intramural sports teams to hosting dances, movie nights, and live music performances, Franciscan's households are the hub of campus social life and will help you experience in a unique way the joy, love, and sense of belonging that only comes from life-long, Christ-centered friendships.
Every semester, nearly 200 Franciscan students spend a semester in the center of Europe. There, you'll live and learn in a 14th-century former Carthusian monastery, taking classes in English from Franciscan University professors. You'll also spend your weekends traveling throughout Europe, encountering first-hand the heritage of Western civilization and the treasures of the Catholic faith.
Our athletes seek to glorify Christ through athletic achievement. A member of the NCAA Division III, Franciscan fields 16 varsity teams that compete against schools from across the region. LEARN MORE
The Christian Outreach Office (COO) offers annual Catholic conferences and a digital catechetical platform to adults and teens in collaboration with Franciscan University of Steubenville and conference partners nationwide.
Responding to the Lord's call to St. Francis to "Go, rebuild my Church", and as part of the New Evangelization, the COO seeks to invite Catholics into a life-long relationship with Christ and His Church. The COO facilitates this through the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confession and nationally recognized speakers, theologians and musicians at the conferences, as well as through an ongoing commitment to engaging attendees through effective media and technology.
